It's because English (Anglo-Saxon) IS Germanic by origin.

You are already aware of pretty much all of your shortcomings, so the only thing you need to do is to make some effort and start articulating the thoughts of your own via writing and speaking. And I'm also gonna let you in on something here, don't translate anything unless you're aiming for a job related to it. Learn how to understand the language without comparing words in your mind. And think purely in English. I have the exact same problems. My reading and listening skills are C1 at the very least. But when it comes to writing or speaking it's like B1 to B2 at the very best.
